EDWARD J. HARTZELL, ANTARES MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS,  STRONGSVILLE,  ELECTED CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF
THE OHIO FOUNDATION OF INDEPENDENT COLLEGES

Edward J. Hartzell, CEO and President of Antares Management Solutions in Strongsville, Ohio was elected Chair of the Board of The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) at the organization’s Annual Meeting on April 21, succeeding Michael E. Kehoe, Vice President, AT&T Ohio.

Mr. Hartzell received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from John Carroll University and his master’s degree in Business Administration from Baldwin-Wallace College.  He is also a graduate of the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration Advanced Management and has completed management programs at Kellogg Graduate School, Case Western Reserve University and Wharton School of Business.   He joined Blue Cross of Northeast Ohio in 1974 and held positions of leadership there through its evolution to Blue Cross and Blue Shield Mutual of Ohio.  Now through Antares Management Solutions, a business Division of Medical Mutual Services, LLC, a subsidiary of Cleveland-based health insurer Medical Mutual of Ohio, he develops non-insurance products and services to expand opportunities with healthcare-related industries.  Antares is a premier provider of business process outsourcing and information technology solutions.   

Mr. Hartzell has been an extremely active and dedicated volunteer to further OFIC’s mission to provide access to independent higher education to Ohio’s students.  He has worked as a campaign volunteer, served as vice chair of the 2003-04 Cleveland area campaign and as Cleveland chair for two consecutive years following.  Hartzell was elected to the OFIC Board of Trustees in 2001.  He has offered his time and expertise for several years to serve as co-chair of the Board’s Program Services Committee and has also served on the Executive, Campaign, and Personnel Committees. 

Mr. Hartzell also serves on the board of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and is active in the Harvard Business School Alumni Association.  He and his wife reside in Avon Lake, Ohio.

OFIC is the primary corporate and foundation solicitation organization for 34 independent Ohio colleges and universities and operates one of the largest, most comprehensive and diverse scholarship management services in the state.  OFIC member colleges collectively enroll nearly 97,000 students and award one-third of all bachelor’s degrees in the state. For 59 years OFIC has worked to highlight the leadership, value and excellence of independent higher education and has provided unrestricted operating funds and scholarship commitments through funds raised in annual solicitations of businesses and foundations, thereby assuring continuation of excellence in private higher education. OFIC is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of Ohio’s corporate leaders, as well as presidents of the 34 member colleges.
