Welcome to the e-Counselor, an electronic student/college matching service provided to you by The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC). With 34 Ohio private colleges to choose among, there is a school to match your personal, academic and social needs. The purpose of the e-Counselor is to give you a starting point. Ohio's private institutions are very diverse. They include traditional liberal arts institutions, church and faith related schools, a women's college, research and doctoral universities, and colleges specializing in fine arts, nursing and business fields. OFIC's member institutions enroll 98,000 students. Campuses vary in size from less than 200 students to more than 10,000 students, and the average undergraduate enrollment is approximately 2,500 students. A private college education is characterized by small class sizes and personalized attention. The average student/faculty ratio at Ohio's private institutions is 14:1. Ohio's private colleges and universities are committed
to helping make a college education affordable. The average annual
tuition and fees at Ohio's independent institutions for 2008-09 was
$22,461. In fall 2006, 93% of new full-time freshmen received financial
aid; their packages, including loans, averaged $15,700. The institutions
themselves are the single largest donors of financial aid to their
students. Excluding student loans, Ohio's private colleges provide
80% of all financial aid - more than $700 million. Continue
